We had a new visitor to our backyard this week. Can anyone identify this butterfly or forward this to someone who could? It is nearly as large as a Monarch and I can't quite seem to place it from any of the websites I've visited.

well first I assumed if was from the same family as a monarch so I found that info, then I found this website. www.butterfliesandmoths.org and I think I narrowed it down to a Variegated Fritallary. The website has a great image gallery. I am NO expert on this so if you see something closer let me know.......

birdman pointed me in the right direction...it appears to be a Great Spangled Fritallary.
birdman shall hence be known as "wing man"
