Our own Freedom Trail

Our family vacation this year took us to up-state New York to spend time in the Adirondacks, then down through southern Vermont into Massachusetts, then out to Boston, Plymouth, and Cape Cod.  This is why in large part I've been absent from posting the last two weeks.

I thought I would share a few pictures from our travels, and as the timing seems appropriate for this week leading up to the Fourth, pictures themed to our nation's beginnings.

The fort dates to the French & Indian War, but became a key victory and post in the Revolution when it was captured from the British and held by the Colonial Army.

At the grave of one of my Revolutionary War ancestors, Nathaniel Cole, in Binghamton, New York.
Cole was a native of Connecticut when he enlisted in the Colonial Army.  He then relocated to New York and established a village at "Cole's Hill" with a tavern and post office on the farm-to-market road, now called Colesville Road.
